Diphenhydramine drug safety alert to stop misuse of drug

Diphenhydramine is an anticholinergic drug which is used to treat the allergy, to tam down symptoms of allergy temporarily hay fever, runny nose and sneezing.

TikTok challenge that lead to death of a youngster, was related to consuming high dosage of Benadryl,

USFDA has contacted TikToK to remove the videos related to the drug challenge, and have published about the possibility of Heart attack seizures, coma, or even death.

Therefore it is essential for patients to keep their medicines containing Diphenhydramine and combination drugs containing Diphenhydramine in lock and key and away from children.

Diphenhydramine works as anti Histaminic drug by blocking H1 receptors (Histaminic receptor) by invers agonistically blocking the effect of histamine on the body and thus protecting from allergic action of histamine.

Diphenhydramine is also used in treatment of  anaphylaxis which is a sever form of allergy which may turn in to life threatening of not treated with anti allergic drugs.

Its not only the histamine reduction but the drug blocks sodium channel by blocking the sodium ion in the sodium potassium channel of the cells, this action do affect the normal function of heart and may lead to heart problem in event of overdose.
